DLA Testing

DLA - TAN / DELTA TESTING

A.C Hargreaves & Co uses a Doble M4000 Diagnostic Test equipment to carry out DLA (Diagnostic Loss Analysis) testing. This is the most advanced test system for evaluating the condition of high voltage power apparatus. This unit sets the standard for accuracy, reliable test results and intelligent diagnostics.

The M4000 provides the most accurate test results ever achieved in a diagnostic test system for high voltage apparatus, its superior interpretation of test results will allow A.C Hargreaves & Co technicians to make informed decisions with the highest level of confidence. The M4000 incorporates breakthrough technology and design that eliminates the problems inherent in other test systems and delivers reliable results, time after time. It offers intelligent software that provides a diagnosis, not just data, so that our technicians can make the right decisions every time.

Power-factor tests are performed on rotating machinery to detect contamination of the stator insulation materials and / or the presence of corona at operating voltage. Standard practice consists of a power-factor measurement at some voltage well below the operating voltage, to determine the general condition of the winding insulation with respect to dirt, moisture etc. Additional tests are then performed at several voltages up to and slightly beyond operating line-to-neutral voltage. The difference in power factors between the measurements made at the lowest test voltage and at operating line-to_neutral voltage is referred to as "power-factor tip up", it is a quantitative indication of corona losses and an indication of the power available to attack stator insulation and binders. These tests should be performed on all high voltage machines on a routine basis of approximately six monthly intervals and the tests results trended. By trending the test results our technicians can inform our customers if and when they need to plan an outage to overhaul the machine. This can save you long periods of down time and high costs should the machine fail.

In summary, a Tan Delta test will determine what condition the insulation is in now and to what level it is likely to withstand Corona discharge. This reading should then be compared with all periodic subsequent tests to determine (predict) the useful life remaining in the machine’s insulation system.

Our technicians can perform these tests to your equipment at our workshop or on site. Please contact our office should you require further information on the above testing service.
